The DC Developmental Disabilities Council is proud to be a part of this year's Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. Join us for a month's worth of advocacy, fun, and celebration all through March!

Movie Screening: "Crip Camp"

Grab some popcorn and join us for a movie! This movie shows how teenagers with disabilities at a summer camp ended up passing a law that helps all people with disabilities, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).


Taller para padres y cuidadores: "Mi Cuidado y Bienestar Personal"

Workshop for parents and caregivers: "My Personal Care and Well-being"

March 10, 2021 from 4 to 5 pm


Information about services and supports, and learning self-care strategies to stay healthy. The presenters of the event will be Jacqueline Nunez from the Department of Disability Services and Rocío Ruiz, Senior Coordinator of Community and Family Services of the YAI Network. English translation will be available.


Better Together Reception - Paint and Sip Night

March 11, 5:30-7:30 pm


No art experience needed! You provide your own sip. You will complete your masterpiece with the online instructor and have a great time with friends. Tickets are $45.


Quality Trust’s Family Ties of DC Virtual Launch and Discussion on the Intersection of Disability and Race: Centering the Perspectives of DC Self-Advocates and Parents

Thursday, March 18, 1:00 – 2:30pm


Plan to join us and learn about Quality Trust’s newest program Family Ties of DC (FTDC), a matching program “by parents for parents”, that will serve as the District of Columbia’s central source of information, resources, and emotional support for parents of family members with disabilities. The 1:1 parent match creates a connection between a parent seeking support with an “experienced” parent who will offer free and confidential support and information.


Creating Your Employment Profile

March 19, 2-3pm


The event's goal is to provide information on employment services in the District for people with disabilities and provide attendees the opportunity to create their Employment one-page profile. The speakers will be J. Michelle Johnson of OSSE and Kevin Wright of DDS.


Project ACTION!’s Monthly Meeting and DD Awareness Focus

Saturday, March 20, 10:00am – 11:30am 


Join Project ACTION! at their monthly meeting to learn more about what’s important to self-advocates in the District of Columbia and the surrounding region.  Learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine, upcoming DC Council Budget hearings, gain new advocacy skills and learn more about mindfulness activities to help relieve stress and anxiety during this difficult time we are in.  All are welcome.


Disability in the Arts Talk: "Best Summer Ever"

March 24, 4-5pm


Straight from an award-winning run at SXSW Online 2021, join Players Unlimited and Project ACTION! and the film stars of the groundbreaking movie-musical "Best Summer Ever" on a talk about disability representation in the arts and media.


DD Awareness Month Celebration

March 31st, 3-4:30pm


This event is the annual event celebrating the accomplishments and showcasing the excellent work that is being done to celebrate and improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities. Guests TBA.
